Why This Course?

Making a career change can feel incredibly daunting, especially if you’re starting completely from scratch. This intensive course is designed to take away the guesswork and give you the practical skills, confidence, and business know-how to actually make the leap. We have  developed this course for complete beginners - all you need is a passion for flowers and a desire to learn!

Whether your goal is to launch your own sustainable floral studio or to gain the confidence to move into formal, industry-recognised qualifications right here at the school, we will bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be.

What We Will Cover

This is a hands-on, practical course using gorgeous, high-grade seasonal flowers. We’ll look at every design through a sustainable lens, teaching you sustainable techniques that are quickly becoming the industry standard.

  • Colour Theory & Conscious Sourcing: How to create beautiful palettes and how to order flowers, calculate stem counts, minimise waste, and build profitable relationships with wholesalers.

  • Popular Gift Designs: Mastering the classic gift work, eco-friendly hand-tied bouquets, and sustainable packaging that retail customers love.

  • Wedding Designs: Everything from beautiful bridal party flowers (bouquets and buttonholes) to table centrepieces.

  • Funeral & Sympathy Designs: Creating respectful, delicate, and entirely biodegradable farewell flowers.

  • Event Design Theory: An introduction to designing for larger spaces, planning installations, and quoting for corporate clients.

Hosted by The Floristry School Sheffield along with Master Florist Emma McGeehan

We are hosting this course at The Floristry School Sheffield, which is widely recognised as one of the most respected and accredited centres for floral education in the country. By partnering with the school, we ensure you get the absolute highest standard of training.

Meet Your Tutor

Hi, I’m Emma McGeehan. I’ve been running my own floristry business for over twenty years now, styling countless weddings, events, and commercial projects. My career has taken me to places I never expected—from creating large-scale, immersive installations for brands like Moët & Chandon, Dishoom, Glastonbury Festival, and Aldi, to winning a Silver Medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.

I hold a Master Diploma from The Floristry School Sheffield, and I’m absolutely delighted to be back here co-running this course. Over the last two decades, I’ve gathered a deep pool of industry knowledge, shortcuts, and practical secrets, and my absolute favourite thing is sharing them generously with people who want to learn.

Crucially, my business is rooted in sustainable practices. I don’t believe beautiful design should come at the cost of the planet, so I'll be teaching you how to source consciously, and how to build a modern, eco-friendly floristry business from the ground up.

Accommodation & Where We Are

The course takes place at our fully equipped studio in Sheffield and is an in-person course. We want you to be able to focus entirely on learning, so we handle a lot of the logistics for you:

  • Materials: Every single flower, foliage stem, and tool you need is provided and included in your tuition.

  • Where to Stay: Sheffield has some lovely spots to stay. We have a list of hotels close to the school we can send over.

  • Food: We’ll keep you fuelled with light lunches, plenty of refreshments, and good coffee in the studio every day.
